I can't get over this!
OK, let's get serious!
A British company named Stanley Gibbons, well known to serious stamp collectors has announced that they have recently obtained John Lennon's childhood stamp collection.
How long he collected is not certain, but from the stamps in the album it didn't seem to be much beyond the very early '50s. There are only about 800 stamps in the album and none are what you would call valuable or extremely scarce. However, it is up for sale and it will cost the future owner at least $53,000.00 to own this collection.
The value, as you may have guessed, is not in the stamps. It is in the fact that John owned it. Inside the front cover of the stamp album is John's name and address written in a blue ballpoint pen. Elsewhere in the album John keeps tally of the number of stamps that he has in the album. But on a couple of pages John, probably at about the tender age of 10 or so, practiced his signature in pencil...obviously he knew it would be in great demand in the near future.
The stamps are basically a throw in. You will be paying over $50 Thou for the signatures and the incredible piece of history. I personally would die to add one stamp from that album to my collection. Even the most common of all in the book, just to have proof that the stamp once belonged to John.
